To celebrate, I shaved my head…? As an author, teacher and coach I have taken over 35 years to find meaning through my life experiences around emotional abandonment, adoption and eating disorder; my family's struggle with alcoholism, mental illness and suicide; and a life-threatening injury and partial amputation of my left hand in 2002 (I shaved my head temporarily after the 12th/final surgery as a way to let go, as this photo shows!) The empowerment through my writing and recovery created Time Out for Balance - a way to realize your potential strength and joy using life coaching, workshops, yoga and fitness classes, and understanding of the chakras and your own unique history and purpose.

Leah Hill, Affiliate Coach

Leah Hill is a Certified Empowerment Coach, Level 1 Energy Leadership Coach, Certified Fitness Instructor and Active Travel Guide. Being active has been a cornerstone in Leah's life. As a high level competitor in many sports (Judo, Show jumping, Fastball, Varsity badminton), Leah learned to overcome injury and utilize what she learned from sports to craft a healthy sustainable life. She became certified as a group fitness instructor, and a trainer of women who had also experienced injuries. "Seeing a client overcome something that was so limiting, to learn how to take the upper hand with their lives, was the best feeling a coach could have."

Leah then went on to fulfill a dream of travel and became an active travel guide. Leah has lead cycling & hiking vacations in Italy, France, Canada, New Zealand, Eastern Europe and the US, since 2000. She found that experiencing the world first hand was a necessary action to balance out all the information learned in school or in the news. "To really truly know what or who you want to be in life, you have to get out and experience life firsthand. Everyone can learn from the confines of four walls, but seeing it and living it gives you a stronger base to stand upon".

Leah became a Certified Empowerment/Energy Coach to share her experiences in a more fulfilling way... partnering with others to facilitate their own successes. "Life isn't about re-inventing ourselves, but more about creating what we want based on what we have learned from our experience".

Her most recent accomplishment was as a volunteer at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, where she was signaled out by the Games' President as one of the top volunteers at the entire event. Fortunately, Leah decided to come back to the Bay Area rather than accepting a job offer there, and we are happy to have her as an affiliate coach at Time Out for Balance, teaching Lose2Win "The Coach Approach" Weight Loss Program, and co-teaching 7 Points of Light and East Meets West: A Culinary Experience workshop.
