On-Going Class Descriptions

Currently Joyce Bueker teaches classes at Lafayette Health Club, Lafayette, CA;
In-Shape, Pittsburgh, CA and Trilogy at Rio Vista and at Brentwood, CA.

Core Strength/Stretch
All levels enjoy resistance training using bands/stability ball, strength training w/dumbells, abs and final stretching.

Stretch!
Who needs to stretch? Every Body! You'll leave class feeling great! Terrific for sports/yoga enthusiasts; also beginner-friendly and especially good for chronic pain/post-surgery.

Yoga 4 Balance
Build balance from the ankle on up, as you loosen stiff joints, release low-back and shoulder tension and create a quiet inner balance; peaceful music and humor make this effective class even more fun to try!

Yoga-Lates
A gentle mixture of Pilates basics for core strength, and Yoga for relaxation and flexibility – this class is perfect for beginners to yoga or Pilates, and those wanting to ease back into their exercise routine.

Lectures

Brown Bag Wellness Lecture Series
Perfect forum for building wellness and awareness in your group or organization, Joyce Bueker and Leah Hill speak on a wide array of topics - from the meaning and color of flowers, to time and appetite management tips, to stress reduction and "Green" kitchens, gardens and organic meals. Bring your own lunch or have your local/in-house café do the catering. Contact Joyce Bueker for prices and availability.

Wellness Speaking Opportunities
Need a wellness speaker? We can create a stress reduction talk to enhance the wellness of your employees or group, or perhaps facilitate a "team wellness" program that utilizes problem-solving techniques to increase communication and collaboration.

Talks range from 90 minutes to 2 hours, and half and full-day events may also be created to meet the various wellness needs of the participants. We offer a hands-on style, with pertinent examples, stories and humor to entertain as well as inform. Topics are endless – What can we do for your group or organization?

2-Hour Workshop Descriptions

East Meets West: A Culinary Experience In this hands-on, interactive workshop, we pair up into teams and cook 10-12 recipes which together form a seasonal menu featuring gluten/dairy-free and low-sodium options. Learn about how Ayurveda cooking uses the 6 tastes (with herbs/spices, textures/colors, etc.) to please the palette and balance your appetite and mind-body constitution. If you don't have a kitchen, no worries - we bring all cooking equipment and food for cooking, plus portable cooking equipment if necessary. After cooking, we all share the meal and you leave with recipe handouts and the confidence and motivation to cook for your well-being as well as your tastebuds. Minimum 8 people/Maximum 30

Deep Relaxation: Meditation/Sleep Enhancement This thoughtful, 2-hour class goes by quickly, with hands-on practice of breath work, seated meditation and reclining relaxation visualization. These techniques are based on yoga and qigong principles, and a discussion of Ayurveda lifestyle preventions and interventions based on your mind-body type gives you personalized tools. We close with a 5-minute "Chakra Tune-Up" to help quiet the mind and heart - and you leave with booklet of sleep remedies and a CD of the exercises for continued practice.

Deep Relaxation: Restorative Yoga Inspired by the Book "Relax and Renew: Restful Yoga for Stressful Times by Judith Lasater, this class gives you an opportunity to release deeply held stress in muscles and connective tissues, and perhaps deeper on an energetic and even emotional level. Simple poses with props, restful music and soothing vocal cues by an attentive facilitator all let you focus the healing power of stillness on yourself. Even tightness that you have trouble releasing in more active yoga or stretch formats may give way in this gentle class.

Feng Shui in a Day!© Feng Shui (Black Hat Sect Tantric Buddhism style) focuses on internal spaces within rooms rather than the actual geographic relationship outside, so that each room in your home or office can be treated like a private space, away from the bustle of the outside world. Joyce Bueker's basic approach helps you understand the two main principles of opposites (yin/yang) and 8 areas of abundance - to create Tai Chi or harmony. If you tend to clutter your space - find out why, and what you can do to create alternate choices that feel good. If you tend to move furniture or room objects around a lot, or are unsure how to create elements in a room or garden that reflect your story in a peaceful, energizing way - this workshop is for you! You'll leave with the knowledge to bring the foundation of balance to your inner space or your garden - and feel confident that you can enjoy the continuing journey of harmonizing your surroundings.

Programs

Seven Points of Light This workshop, offers a unique blend of concepts, personal stories and communication tools & lifestyle/behavioral change techniques to help you maximize understanding, growth and results during major life transitions. There are practical and easy to understand examples and exercises to help you understand and amplify your seven innate wisdom centers to help you:

  • cope with pain, injury, illness, addiction, loss of relationship/loved one
  • adapt to life cycles (marriage, pregnancy, moving, retirement, aging)
  • change/advance career, find/create work you love, or teach wellness

In Seven Points of Light, I describe the chakra, the key life lesson, and reward gained for undergoing the personal journey and doing the work of understanding. This workshop takes a minimum of three weeks, and the group or individual usually meets with the facilitator/coach once a week or once a month. In a group setting, there is usually a private one-on-one coaching session included in the price.

Lose2Win Our healthy version of "The Biggest Loser," Lose2Win combines small group exercise, Life Coaching and NutriSum,™ a simple yet effective program to lose fat while focusing on healthy daily behaviors (whole grain choices, fruits/veggies, hydration, portions and meal times). Using a Life Coach helps you take needed time out for balance - so that you begin to make yourself a priority. Time for healthy eating, adequate rest and play, exercise and balanced goals - as Life Coaches we use compassionate accountability to help you find the time to focus on your results and rewards. As you become informed and more capable week to week, you get results, and a life-long habit of healthy food and exercising grows.

The program is 13 weeks and includes weekly motivational emails/phone call from the coach/facilitator plus group discussions/exercise session and a binder for life coaching/fitness handouts and recipes. Currently, Joyce Bueker and Leah Hill facilitate programs in Contra Costa County and original creator of the program Jo Carmichael and Joyce Bueker facilitate programs in Solano County.

Cornerstones of Ayurveda In our hectic modern world, who doesn't long for more balance? Ayurveda, which comes from the same Sanskrit texts as Yoga, offers us an opportunity to not only restore our balance inside and out, but maintain and nurture balance even as we undergo the ups and downs of life. Through this workshop you will deepen your understanding of the four lifestyle cornerstones: nutrition (how "well fed" are you?), mind-body (how connected to your breath are you?), deeper self-nurturing (how can you "come to your senses" daily?) and balanced, heart-centered goals (what do you really want to do to take care, versus what you think you have to do to survive and maintain your responsibilities/manifest your purpose?) - you will learn and practice tools to create and sustain balance and well-being.

This workshop can be presented as a 2-hour course or as a 3 or 4-week series. In some locations, we meet once a month. The question remains: What do you really want, and need? Time out for balance, with the cornerstones of ayurveda is a good start to answering that question!

Retreats

We are planning several weekend and possibly longer retreats for 2011 – some local in the San Francisco Bay Area, and also in other Western states. We are also considering a retreat to Costa Rica and Central America, so stay tuned for more information!
